10 Self Imposed Road Blocks for Women Starting Businesses Part III

At this point we have covered the first seven road blocks that women build to stop themselves from starting businesses.  I hope that you have taken the time to study them and have acknowledged where you might have issues that need to be addressed.  At this point you have dealt with most of the mental issues with the exception of #10, which is a big one.  However, even with that one still out there you should be feeling pretty good about moving forward with your business ideas.  Before we take a look at the last three road blocks let's get a quick reminder about the first seven.

ROAD BLOCK #1 - Not Enough Money
ROAD BLOCK #2 - Negative Self-Talk
ROAD BLOCK #3 - Comfort Zone Addiction
ROAD BLOCK #4 - Doubting Your Business Idea
ROAD BLOCK #5 - Not Knowing Where To Start
ROAD BLOCK #6 - Not Smart Enough
ROAD BLOCK #7 - Feeling You Have to Know Everything Before You Can Start

ROAD BLOCK #8 - The So-Called Experts (Dream Squishers) - They mean good (well most of the time) your family and friends that is.  You tell them about your dream and how you are going to change your life and your future and they start to tear it apart.  They tell you all the reasons why you are not going to make it and why it absolutely won't work.  I know this may seem off course, but have you ever had the opportunity to watch a bucket of live crabs?
Being from the south we go crabbing so I have witnessed this.  Did you know that as you catch crabs you can keep them in a fairly shallow bucket?  The reason is because every time any one of them gets close to the top of the wall, close to freedom, the others reach up and grab him and pull him down.  Your friends and family may do the same thing, first because they don't want you to get hurt and possibly second because they might not want you to do better than them.

Tip #8 - Only take advice from someone who has been where you want to go.

ROAD BLOCK #9 - Time Stealers  - So you made it past the Dream Squishers with your dream for a better future in tact. You and your dream are now one or are you?  You have done the market research, you have a plan spelling out the steps you are getting ready to take.  You are going to put that plan into action first thing in the morning.  You wake, get dressed, get the kids to school but it's raining.  Well you don't really want to get wet so you will wait till after lunch.  After lunch the phone rings and you get side tracked, well now it is almost time to get the kids from school so you will wait until after that.  Oh but you forgot to get the potatoes for super so you have to run by the grocery store and the kids are really kind of hungry so you had better go ahead and make dinner.  Now your husbands home and he isn't all that excited that you want to do anything but take care of him so you decide to do it tomorrow.  Before you know it, it has been a week since you decided you were going to do something to change your life and your future and now you just aren't sure it is possible.  I am here to tell you this happens to everyone.  It is very easy to get consumed in our lives (ruts) to the point that we do not feel like we can make a change.

Tip #9 - Control your time - don't let your time control you!

ROAD BLOCK #10 - Fear of Failure and Success - Sounds a little funny doesn't it - that you could fear failure and success.  Women have been blessed with amazing intuition that gives us that little heads up when needed but I think we are also sometimes controlled by fears that are unwarranted.  Several years ago I took a class on Fear and the teacher told us to think of fear as:
F - False
E - Evidence
A - Appearing
R - Real
How about that - Fear is our acceptance of non truths that our mind believes to be real. That's a big pill to swallow.  Why should we allow our lives and futures to be controlled by fear of what we don't even know to be true.  If you have a fear of failure or success I beg of you to take the time to work it out.  Theodore Roosevelt once said "It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed."

So there you have it, the ten road blocks that women build to stop themselves from creating a better future for them and their families.  Now I ask you - do you want to be one of the pack?  Just a nut in the can of nuts?  Or do you want to take control over your situation, your life, the future of you and your family?  I know that every one of you has the ability to make it.  Will it be easy?  No - if it were easy everyone would be doing it!  Only those who are willing to keep getting up when they feel knocked down will make it.
